COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral to book a speech pathology appointment?
No referral is needed to access our services privately or through NDIS. If you’re accessing sessions via a Medicare Enhanced Primary Care Plan, you’ll need a GP referral first. Contact us and we’ll guide you through the right pathway.
How do I know if my child needs a speech pathologist?
Trust your instincts as a parent. If you’re concerned about how your child speaks, understands language, reads, socialises, or communicates — it’s worth a chat. Early intervention leads to better outcomes, and there’s no harm in checking. We’re happy to advise over the phone.
What ages do your Speech Pathologists work with?
We work with children and young people from 6 months of age right through to 25 years. We have specific programs and therapy pathways designed for toddlers, preschoolers, primary school children, and teens and young adults.
Do you offer telehealth or online appointments?
Yes — we offer telehealth for many of our services. This is particularly useful for families in regional areas, or when attending in person isn’t possible. Some assessments and group programs do require in-person attendance. Ask us what’s available for your child’s specific needs.
Are you NDIS registered?
Yes, CHATS is a registered NDIS provider. We work with self-managed, plan-managed, and NDIA-managed participants. We can also assist families to navigate their NDIS plans to get the most from their funding.
